Minor Works and Low Level Equipment
Items of minor equipment are available for people over the age of 18, who need practical help due to sight or hearing loss, physical or learning disabilities, frailty or illness. These can sometimes be all that is needed to help maintain independence and quality of life.
Minor adaptation include grab rails, banister rails and shower seats that are affixed to the wall, in addition to some standalone equipment.
The Adult Social Care Team is the first point of contact for all referrals and general enquiries. They can be contacted from 8.45am to 5pm, Monday to Friday on (01254) 587547.
A representative from our Equipment and Adaptations Service will get in touch to arrange an assessment to see what could make day to day living easier. We may visit the home environment or discuss needs over the telephone.
Once appropriate equipment has been identified a ‘prescription’ will be issued which enables the service user to use a local accredited retailer for standalone equipment or it will be delivered directly to individuals, depending on personal circumstances.
If the equipment requires fitting we will arrange for it to be installed.
Once installed, an assessor will make contact who make sure that the equipment is appropriate and is supporting mobility needs.
If, following our assessment, we agree that equipment is needed to make day to day living easier, we will pay the full cost of that equipment, except for some smaller items of very low cost.
For self-funded equipment prices can be compared on the 'Living made easy' website
These are locally accredited retailers who can fulfil prescriptions for equipment and have a wide knowledge of what equipment is available.

People can request minor adaptations such as grab rails and second banister rails directly through our Customer Liaison Team (Tel: 01254 587547) without the need for a professional assessment. Fitting is usually completed within one month of receiving the referral.
For minor adaptations, responsibility to remove is that of the individual as the equipment is given and not loaned.
